Weddings in Canberra and the ACT PDF Print E-mail

Canberra and its surrounds are a unique place for your wedding. While Canberra is a modern city, it's wide avenues and rural surrounds create a city without the usual hustle and bustle.

The following parks and gardens are the most popular parks for civil wedding ceremonies and photographs. Enjoy your wedding in Canberra.

  • Nara Peace Park. A Japanese garden donated by Canberra's sister city in Japan. Features large stone lanterns, timber pagodas, blossom trees.
  • Glebe Park - Akuna Street, Canberra City. A large park in the centre of Canberra city. Features rotunda, deciduous trees, large lawn areas.
  • Old English Garden - Yarralumla. Features heritage gardens, large European trees.

  • Sculpture Garden - Australian National Gallery. The sculpture garden is a heritage listed garden displaying the four seasons, featuring sculptures by many world famous artists as well as native and exotic flora. Sculpted pathways lead to a paved Rodin garden, a beach area on the shores of the lake and a scenic garden restaurant. Open grassy areas and the Carillon Outlook area are great for both ceremonies and photographs. No charges apply for bookings but bookings are essential. Contact Events Co-ordinator on 6240 6413.
  • Aspen Island, Lake Burley Griffin - a very popular and picturesque spot with a number of special locations. The Carillon is on this island.
  • Senate Rose Garden, Old Parliament House. A very pretty garden featuring fragrant roses, formal hedges, manicured parkland and established trees.
  • Commonwealth Park, Parkes Way, Canberra - Many wonderful sites for ceremonies and photographs including the Narang Pool, Waterfall and Rond Terraces areas.

  • Australian National Botanic Gardens, Clunies Ross Street, Acton - Features very pretty Australian native gardens with a number of designated wedding ceremony sites. These are the Marsh Garden, Rock Garden Lawn, Ducrou Pavilion, Brittle Gum Lawn, Northern Eucalypt Lawn, Crosbie Morrison Building Amphitheatre and Burbidge  Amphitheatre. The sites cater from between 50 - 150 guests and most of the sites have some shady spots. Fees apply for ceremonies and photographs and bookings are essential. Contact the Wedding Co-ordinator on 6250 9550 for further information.
  • Cooma Cottage - Hume Highway, Yass.  Features a traditional Australian rural homestead set amidst rolling hills on the banks of the Yass River. It is one of the oldest houses in southern New South Wales and is a rich example of Australian colonial architecture set amidst a glorious pastoral landscape.
